  Last night a friend and I went to Gilded Otter specifically for the chili as we have numerous times in recent years. The last I had it there was February this year.
  Normally the three meat chili is served with cheese crusted on top and a hunk of cornbread, and if requested a bowl of tri-color nachos. The chili is thick with nice chunks of meat. A large bowl is a full meal and I and my friends walk out stuffed (not small guys either)
  On this trip the chili was not up to par. The chili was soupy, not chili-like. The bowl was much much smaller (not a typo, I used “much” twice intentionally), and we specifically did not order the small one. The cornbread was, well not cornbread; we could not determine what type of bread it was. It was hard and unrecognizable. Also on this trip the service was quite lacking. The food came quickly but as we were eating our drinks emptied and no one came around asking if we wished refills. This lack of attention was not due to lack of staff, there were plenty talking with a woman who seemed like a manager directing the stacking of mugs along with sitting at the bar like a patron.
  We did not comment or complain about the service or food as no one came around to even ask, and by the time they did we just asked for the check as we had been there long enough, we were thirsty and still hungry and wanted to head out on the bikes to somewhere else to get a beer and something to eat.
  I will return at some point and try the chili again as I would not want to have my opinion formed by one experience, especially when it has been stellar in the past.
